These precautions apply to pond owners and algae blooms. It is important to take care of our ponds especially during the Summer heat (refer to last blog post “How to Prevent Algae Blooms this Summer“) and to avoid fertilizer runoffs into our ponds and riverfront.
Follow these three tips from Pond Science to prevent and take care of harmful toxic algal blooms and to take care of our environment and aquatic ecosystems:
- Mow your clippings away from the water. Clippings are food for algae
- Keep manure away from the pond
- Add aeration to circulate and add oxygen to the whole pond and improve water quality all year long!
It is that easy!
